Twelve years is longer than it takes to plan some missions to space. It’s also the length of time marina developer Ben Miller took to carefully plan Cottonwood Creek Marina as an integral beacon to represent Little Elm’s identity. It needed to be a recreational respite, geographically advantaged for lake traffic and access, and a true gathering point of Lake Lewisville community.
Engineering logic and a pinpointed desire to be a full-service lake getaway for North Texas families culminated in groundbreaking in 2002 and a build by industry-leading marina manufacturer Meeco-Sullivan. By 2003, Cottonwood Creek Marina had sprouted open on Lake Lewisville’s northeast shore, in the heart of Little Elm. Now home to 393 covered and open slips from 24 to 50 feet, the marina includes pontoon and tritoon rentals, eight full-service fuel pumps, a pump-out station, private restrooms and showers, a fully-stocked ship store, 24-hour security, picnic facilities, and a gentle shoreline that hosts everything from live music to fireworks spectators.
Cottonwood Creek Marina has been awarded the Marina Association of Texas’s “Outstanding Marina of the Year” award six times (2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2019, 2023), is a Certified Clean Texas Marina, and has twice won the Little Elm Chamber of Commerce “Small Business of the Year” (2005, 2024). The marina is a host location for the BoatUS Foundation’s Life Jacket Loaner Program and an active member of the Little Elm and Frisco Chambers of Commerce.
Cottonwood Creek Marina hosts or co-hosts many of Little Elm’s biggest annual events, with member dock parties in summer months, and an annual “Blessing of the Vessels,” in which tenants are invited to parade their boats under arches of water sprayed by the Little Elm fire boat. The fun afternoon is held in the interest of good fortune for boats and passengers in the coming season.
The marina’s management and staff proudly support a number of community, national, and international organizations. Each Fourth of July weekend, the marina donates all fuel proceeds to Folds of Honor, and throughout the year, the team supports the Little Elm Area Food Bank, CASA of Denton County, and several other community partners who are vital to the people of Little Elm and North Texas.
Cottonwood Creek Marina’s mission is to provide a safe, fun, and family-centric facility for guests spending hard-earned weekends on Lake Lewisville. The marina staff is dedicated to fostering a memorable experience, and is known for their “hand-rolled dock lines” and waiting by slips to help when members launch and when they come back in.
From General Manager Ryan Miller, the entire Miller family, and the staff here at Cottonwood Creek Marina:
Welcome.
The Cottonwood Creek Marina timeline
2002
Meeco-Sullivan begins construction on the 300-plus slip marina on a piece of Lake Lewisville’s northeast shore. The marina includes offices, eight fuel docks, a ship store, and space for picnics and live music events.
2003
Cottonwood Creek Marina opens to the North Texas public. The marina wins “Outstanding Marina of the Year” the next year, and Little Elm’s “Business of the Year” two years later.
2012
Cottonwood Creek Boat Rental opens at Cottonwood Creek Marina as a convenient, luxurious, and family-oriented boat rental location with premium pontoon, tritoon, and kayak rentals.
2013
As our staff and their families grow into a marina community of 10 years, so does the physical marina. In 2013, we add a “C” dock addition, and we’ve continued to expand the marina as needed to accommodate new Lake Lewisville boaters. The new dock expansion coincides with Cottonwood Creek Marina winning its fourth “Marina of the Year” award in 10 years.
2017-2018
Our General Manager Ryan Miller serves as the president of Marina Association of Texas.
2019
Cottonwood Creek Marina wins its fifth Marina Association of Texas “Marina of the Year” award.
2020
Following a decade of explosive population growth in Denton County (The county grew from 665,833 in 2010 to 977,281 by 2022), the marina invites good luck for boaters with the now-annual “Blessing of the Vessels” event to welcome the summer boating season.
2021
In support of its mission to provide educational scholarships for the children of fallen soldiers and soldiers who were disabled in the line of duty, Cottonwood Creek Marina begins devoting the Fourth of July weekend proceeds from fuel to Folds of Honor. The foundation now also supports the children of first responders.
2023
Cottonwood Creek Marina celebrates its 20th anniversary with support from the Town of Little Elm, its staff, and its wonderful members.
2023
The same year that Cottonwood celebrates 20 years on Lake Lewisville, the Town of Little Elm breaks ground on the Cottonwood Creek Park adjacent to the marina. The planned project includes miles of trails, pavilions, picnic areas, restrooms, a playground, and future improvements that include a fishing pier, zip line, and an RV park and campground. The park is now already a wonderful hangout for boaters and picnickers who visit with us.
2024
Cottonwood Creek Marina wins Little Elm’s “Small Business of the Year” award for a second time, and carries on its mission to be the ideal gathering place for families on Lake Lewisville.
